Guardian of the Stone Forest
Beneath an expansive blue sky, ancient stone figures stand quietly among the grasses, while birds sweep across the open space above them. Below, the water reflects the changing light, adding depth and movement to this mysterious landscape.
Layers of blue, green and white, expressive textures and delicate touches of gold create a world balanced between nature, imagination and ancient memory. There is a sense of stillness here, yet the birds and flowing water bring the scene gently to life.
Guardian of the Stone Forest invites you to pause, look closer and discover your own story within this atmospheric landscape.
Story Behind the Painting
Some landscapes seem to belong to another world, where nature has been quietly creating its own sculptures for millions of years.
Guardian of the Stone Forest was inspired by the extraordinary Stone Forest, or Shilin, in Yunnan, China. Its remarkable limestone formations rise from the earth in shapes that invite us to look closer and discover unexpected forms within the ancient landscape.
In the upper-left corner of my painting, a white face emerges, watching over this mysterious world. This is the Guardian — a quiet, almost otherworldly presence that gives the landscape its own sense of character and meaning.
Below the expansive blue sky, birds sweep freely overhead, while the water reflects the surrounding colours. Layers of green, blue and violet bring movement to the scene, while touches of gold add warmth and a hint of magic.
For me, the Guardian represents the mysterious presence we sometimes sense in nature — something that invites us to pause, look beyond the obvious and allow our imagination to wander.
I hope you will discover your own story within this landscape.

Galina

Texture and Close-Up Details
There is plenty to discover when you look closely at Guardian of the Stone Forest. Layers of acrylic, expressive marks made with Posca pen and marker, stencil details and collage create a varied surface full of movement and contrast.
The dark stone formations stand out against the expansive blue sky and vibrant green landscape. Birds add delicate, lively marks overhead, while the water gathers shades of blue, violet and white. Small touches of gold leaf catch the light, bringing warmth and an unexpected glimmer to the composition.
Each area has its own character, from the stronger shapes of the ancient stones to the softer, flowing reflections below. These contrasting textures encourage the eye to travel around the painting, discovering new details with every look.
Guardian of the Stone Forest in a Room Setting
With its expansive blue sky, natural greens and mysterious stone formations, Guardian of the Stone Forest can bring a sense of depth, imagination and quiet drama to an interior.
It would sit beautifully in a contemporary living room, a calm reading corner or a creative space, particularly where neutral walls allow its colours and textures to stand out. Natural wood, soft linen and understated furnishings would complement the earthy character of the landscape, while the touches of gold add a subtle note of warmth.
At 76 × 61 cm, this unframed canvas makes a substantial statement without overwhelming the room. It is a painting to return to, offering new details and imagined stories over time.
